Thomas Gibbons is a recently retired, twenty-five-year veteran of the New York State Police. Thomas was assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for over 19 years as an Investigator and Senior Investigator. Thomas was assigned to the Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit and served as the regional coordinator responsible for being the liaison between the New York State Police and every private and State college and university in the eight counties of Western NY. Thomas organized and implemented training targeted at local police departments, prosecutors and campus personnel responsible for responding to sexual assaults, dating and domestic violence and stalking. Thomas also developed and implemented the training standards and in person training for all New York State law enforcement in association with NYS Executive Law 838-a section 3(a), “Sexual Offense Trauma-Informed Victim Response Training.”
Thomas is a member of the Niagara County Child Abuse Intervention Project, the Niagara County Sexual Assault Response Team, the Western New York Consortium of Higher Education – Sexual Assault Awareness, Prevention and Compliance Task Force and the Law Enforcement Administration Consortium, as well as the Erie County Rape Advisory Committee. Thomas is also a 2017 graduate of Leadership Niagara and is the recipient of the 2017 George M. Searle Memorial Award for his work on college campuses and within the community.
