Description

Course Format

Recorded webinar.

Description: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a way to talk to people about making a change. As an Evidence-Based practice, implementation science helps support the use of MI, including the coaching and supervisor supports that direct service workers get in supervision. MI can also be used as a supervision tool to elicit a worker's best practices. This training will focus on skills for supporting MI in workers you supervise AND using MI as a supervisory tool. By improving worker competence in MI, supervisors can spend less time micromanaging and consulting on cases and more time in clinical supervision. We will discuss issues related to coaching best practices, fidelity, and implementation science principles that support MI adoption in agencies.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Practice how to coach workers to use and improve their MI skills.
  2. Explain standards for fidelity to MI practice and fidelity tools that help assess fidelity.
  3. Demonstrate ways to use MI in supervision to target changing a practitioner's behavior.
  4. Describe ways that agencies can support the use of MI using implementation science principles.

Research:  Select current research on MI can be found at US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health

Target Audience: social workers, mental health practitioners, creative arts therapists, marriage and facility therapists, psychologists, addiction professionals, case managers, and other interested individuals.
