This course focuses on the origin, theory, components, research and application of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a treatment method originally developed for treating trauma and now being applied to a range of client problems. You will have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to utilize this method appropriately and effectively with diverse client populations and problems. Such use is based on an understanding of the theoretical basis of EMDR, client safety issues, integration with the comprehensive treatment plan, and supervised practice with the components of EMDR as well as its various applications.
Course Expectations:
1. Attend every class in a private, quiet setting. You are required to attend EVERY SESSION.
2. Be on time and stay for the duration of each class.
3. Use the desktop app for Zoom, as the web version has limited features and may limit your ability to participate fully in class.
4. Ensure you have a strong internet connection to avoid disruptions.
5. Avoid distractions: do not drive, walk, make phone calls, or engage in other activities during sessions.
6. Refrain from browsing the internet or texting on your phone during training.
7. Keep your camera on throughout every session.
Synchronous Class Schedule
For this 11 day course, you must attend EVERY SESSION with your camera on and participation is required. You cannot miss any part of the training so be sure that all scheduling conflicts are worked out prior to registering.
Course Completion Requirements
This course has two parallel sets of requirements for completion. One is sufficient completion to obtain your UBSW CE credits. The other is to be able to obtain your EMDRIA Basic Training certificate. It is possible to obtain UBSW CE credits, but not the Basic Training Certificate. Textbook is required and provided.

This course has been approved by the EMDR International Association, the professional organization that certifies EMDR practitioners. This course meets the basic training requirements for certification. Please be aware certification also requires additional supervised practice, experience, and consultation. Those who meet the requirements listed above will receive a certificate of completion confirming they have met the basic training requirements for certification.

2. Send this link to your supervisor for completion https://ubswce.ce21.com/form/emdr-supervisor-form-157. Please note this should be the supervisor at the location you will be practicing your EMDR techniques, this can be your field placement or employer.
3. Once your course application and supervisor’s recommendation have been received, you are required to attend an orientation. February 26, 2025 from 1 pm - 2 pm OR May 7, 2025 from 9 am - 10 am
4. After orientation is complete, a confirmation will be emailed you.
This is a limited capacity course and will also include graduate students.

Annie Monaco, LCSW-R, RPT-S, is co-founder of Playful EMDR, an online hub for training and consultation in treating trauma-exposed children. Annie travels internationally and throughout the US providing specialty trainings on EMDR with children and teens and how to effectively treat attachment wounds and dissociative strategies and self-states. Annie has extensive experience with foster care, out of country adoptions, and at-risk teenagers and family therapy. Through the Child Trauma Institute & Trauma Institute, Annie is an EMDRIA approved trainer of EMDR and trainer of Progressive Counting and provides consultation to therapists and agencies.
Annie was a Director of Restorative Justice programs at a non-profit agency where she oversaw juvenile and adult offender programs for over 10 years. Presently her private practice includes a multitude of behaviors and issues including foster care, out of country adoptions, juvenile justice and dissociation. Annie is the co-editor and contributor of chapters for EMDR with Children in the Play Therapy Room, An Integrated Approach (2020) and contributing chapter for EMDR and Creative Arts Therapies (2022).

Lisa Prefontaine is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, working in the Mental Health field for over 18 years. After working for 13 years at a local Behavioral Health Agency, the last 5 years as Clinical Director of Mental Health Services, Lisa is currently in full time private practice. She does individual therapy with adolescents and adults, as well as consultation for private practitioners and EMDR trained therapists, and is a trainer on various clinical topics. Lisa has maintained a private practice for 11 years and began using online services for self-pay in 2011. She continues to do online sessions and consultations.
