Description
In-person workshop.
Description: This course will provide in-depth training in evidence-based treatment for child & adolescent anxiety with specific applications to a variety of DSM-5-TR Anxiety Disorders. Trainees will learn the theoretical foundation of anxiety including neurobiological, behavioral and cognitive theoretical orientations. Trainees will learn how to develop an anxiety oriented case conceptualization and treatment plan. The training will cover generic evidence-based anxiety interventions including psychoeducation, mindfulness & distress tolerance, cognitive processing & restructuring, social skills training, problem solving and gradual exposure therapy. Trainees will then be instructed on how to apply these generic anxiety interventions to a variety of DSM-5-TR Anxiety Disorders including Separation Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety Disorders and Somatic Symptom Disorder with youth. In addition, methods to involve parents/guardians in the youth's treatment will be covered.
The emphasis will be on helping the trainee develop practical evidence-based skills that can be readily applied in clinical practice with anxious youth. Immersive learning activities such as trainer modeling & role play, case discussions, small group learning activities and youth friendly structured worksheets and handouts will be utilized to help trainees learn hands-on, readily applicable clinical skills to use with their anxious clients. Use of evidence-based treatments for common co-morbid conditions such as depression and sleep disorders will be incorporated along with effective methods for parent/guardian involvement and community intervention.
