Description

IMPORTANT: Course is provided through Harmonyhearth Center for Widsdom, Kriss Jarecki, LCSW-R. CEUs, registration, and customer support are being offered through the UB School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education. Description:

Progressive Counting (PC) is a fairly new research-supported trauma treatment that is effective, efficient, well-tolerated by clients, and relatively easy to master. This is a hands-on clinical skills training for using Progressive Counting with clients of all ages who have been exposed to significant trauma or loss. This in-depth training will cover trauma theory, impact of trauma and loss, identification and assessment of traumatized clients, and directly help clients to manage their symptoms, resolve their trauma/loss memories, and prepare to cope effectively with future challenges.

Learning Objectives:

1.    Articulate to client’s what trauma is (how it happens, symptoms, etc.)                                                 
2.    Informed about current research on trauma and PC                                                                                  
3.    Implement a trauma informed evaluation and present a case formulation to clients                         
4.    Learn about assessment questionnaires such as PCL- 5, IES, Problem Rating Scale, etc.                               
5.    Learn at least 3 relaxation and resource tools such as safe place                                                            
6.    Explain the PC procedure to clients                                                                                                              
7.    Learn how to determine appropriate target order                                                                                     
8.    Learn how to implement the basic PC protocol                                                                                          
9.    Understand when and how to implement cognitive interweaves                                                           
10.    Understand when and how to apply float back                                                                                           
11.    Understand what a cluster is and how to use PC with clusters                                                                                                            
12.    Understand and implement future template work                                
13.    Implement the Flash technique

Kriss has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1987. She is a consultant and trainer for Progressive Counting and EMDR and an advanced training provider. Kriss currently serves on the EMDR International Association Board of Directors and was a member of the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee for four years. She served as a co-regional coordinator for the WNY EMDR Regional Network for 10 years, worked for 7 years as a field instructor for the UB School of Social Work and has over ten years’ experience as a clinician and supervisor in the field of chemical dependency. Kriss currently has a private practice serving teens through adults and treats challenges such as PTSD, self-injurious behaviors, depression, anxiety, phobias, and adjustment issues. She has published articles in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research, Traumatology and Counseling and Psychotherapy Research. Kriss also provides several trauma related trainings such as Integrating Neuroscientific Interventions in Trauma Treatment, A Tour of Trauma Sensitive Techniques for the EMDR Practitioner, IFS Meets EMDR and Journey of the LGBTQ+ Community from Trauma to Triumph.  Kriss presented “From Trauma to Triumph: Journey to Resiliency in the Community of Those with a Disability at the EMDR Canada 2022 conference and the EMDR International Association 2022 and 2023 conferences.   • Prior to 10 days before a course begins: we will refund your payment minus a ​$​1​​​50​ fee.
  • After 10 days no refund. However, we welcome you at the next training at 50% off the registration fee.

Completion Requirements

No partial credit is given for partial attendance.

In order to receive a certificate of completion for this course, participants must complete the following.

Please note all requirements can be found in your UBCE21 portal. 

- Attend the entire course.  Zoom attendance is used to verify viewing requirements. Zoom can take up to 24 hours to confirm attendance. Participation in small group activities is required.

- Respond to poll questions. You must participate in at least 75% of the polls.

- After the training, complete the evaluation by clicking on the "Evaluation and Certificate" button for this course.

Mackenzie Northrup Headshot

Mackenzie Northrup is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with a strong academic foundation and extensive training in trauma-focused therapy. She holds an M.S. in Community Mental Health Counseling from the University of Rochester Warner School of Education and a B.A. in Psychology from the University at Buffalo. She is certified in Progressive Counting (PC) and is currently a consultant in training (CIT). Mackenzie is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and the Flash Technique, and she is currently pursuing certification in EMDR. She worked for over four years at community mental health agencies serving high-risk populations and individuals in crisis and multiple other diagnoses such as addictions, PTSD, Bipolar, dissociation and schizophrenia. Mackenzie recently transitioned to private practice where she uses a personalized and evidence-based approach to therapy, blending methods to align with each client’s unique needs and goals. She values collaboration and actively seeks client feedback to ensure the therapeutic process is both effective and empowering. Mackenzie is a member of the American Counseling Association, the International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling, and the New York Mental Health Counselors Association in both the Buffalo/Niagara Chapter and the Greater Rochester Chapter.
