The delivery format for this training is a hybrid model. You can register for the Live In-Person Training or the Live Online Training. They will be held simultaneously.
Description: This is a skill focused course on how to assess and respond to adults with psychiatric emergencies where there is a risk of lethality (suicidal/ homicidal/self-harm). It will include identification of high risk factors and how to conduct lethality assessments for individuals, including those who are diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness and/or under the influence of substances. Participants will learn the levels of lethality; how to use lethality assessment tools and rating scales; how to complete documentation of services which reflect clinical assessments in accordance with the most current evidence and best practices; how to create an intervention plan for identified lethality, and when it is appropriate in professional social work practice to break confidentiality based on a current lethality assessment.

Lynda Battaglia, LCSW, is the Director of Mental Health & Community Services for Genesee County. In this role, she is the CEO of the Genesee County Mental Health clinic which is an OMH Article 31 Licensed outpatient clinic serving children and adults. Additionally, Lynda oversees all services in the community that fall within the Mental Hygiene System, including Mental Health, Substance Use and Intellectual Developmental Disability. Lynda is the Chair for the Mental Hygiene Planning Committee for the Conference of Local mental Hygiene Directors. Lynda has served in this role for the last two and a half years. Prior to this, Lynda worked in various positions within the New York State Office of Mental Health for fourteen years. Areas of practice and expertise are Forensic Services, Suicide Prevention & Education, Crisis Services and Emergency Mental Health. Lynda is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Buffalo where she teaches a graduate level course for the Social Work program focusing on Forensic Social work and Understanding Suicide. Lynda served as the President of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Western New York Chapter, for 10 years. Lynda was awarded with the AFSP Excellence in Education Award in 2010. She has worked in the field for over 20 years and strives to bring a voice to community awareness and education on topics such as Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.

How do I test my system / access the online training?
To access the program, please log into your account. Please plan to log in 10 minutes prior to the start time. Click on the Launch Viewer button next to your program title to confirm you can see video and hear audio. You will enter the room with your microphone muted and your camera off. In order to receive a certificate of completion for this course participants must complete the following.

- Attend the entire course. Zoom attendance is used to verify viewing requirements. Zoom can take up to 48 hours to confirm attendance. Participation in small group activities is required.
- Document participation codes and respond to poll questions. Single letter participation codes will be displayed throughout the training. Participants must input the codes in the orange "Evaluation & Certificate" button. Participants must record at least 75% of the codes correctly and participate in at least 75% of the polls.
- After the training, complete the evaluation by clicking on the "Evaluation and Certificate" button for this course.
The certificate of completion will be immediately generated in your account upon completion of all course requirements. Certificates may be downloaded, printed, or left in your account.
