Course Format

Live interactive webinar: Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussion by unmuting and directly asking questions or through the chat feature in Zoom.

This training meets the new NYS requirement for coursework/training in identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment (completion due by 4/1/25) and includes the three hours of required professional boundaries content (required in each registration period).

This workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of mandated reporting practices, with meaningful discussions that emphasize the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and effective communication to ensure ethical information gathering. Effective engagement with the client and community stakeholders is essential, and this workshop will highlight strategies for establishing respectful and appropriate connections with families.

This workshop will provide guidance on navigating the process of making mandated reporter calls ethically by highlighting positive rapport during information gathering, which is greatly enhanced by positive connections with the client and their family members. The stronger the worker connects with the client and their family, the more effective a call might be, as well as resources that may be provided to the family when a call is not yet indicated. Managing interpersonal effectiveness when anticipating future calls, while also addressing the emotional impact on workers dealing with challenging cases.

It delves into the nuanced intersection of professional boundaries and legal obligations of the provider, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication strategies. Through instruction grounded in empirical research and interventions, participants will gain insights that honor diverse cultural backgrounds and facilitate collaborative partnerships with families, which are applicable to daily practices.

Aligned with the requirement for mandated reporting certification renewal in New York State, this workshop caters to professionals at all proficiency levels. Collaborative learning opportunities will be integrated throughout the day, fostering growth for all participants.

This workshop is designed for all clinical and healthcare fields.  By attending this workshop, participants will not only deepen their understanding of mandated reporting but also gain practical strategies for promoting cultural sensitivity and fostering positive relationships with family stakeholders.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to recognize signs of abuse or neglect in a child or vulnerable population.
  2. Illustrate mandated reporting protocols to hypothetical scenarios or case studies, specifically employing multicultural examples.
  3. Analyze the ethical dilemmas that may arise in determining nuanced circumstances of unclear mandated reporting scenarios.
  4. Describe the complex role of professional boundaries and legal obligations when developing rapport with family stakeholders and making mandated reporting calls.
