Description

Course Format

Live interactive webinar: Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussion by unmuting and directly asking questions or through the chat feature in Zoom.

The Holistic Resilience Recharge (HRR) is a practical, evidence-informed workshop for social workers, mental health providers, and allied professionals in trauma-exposed roles. Ongoing exposure to client trauma can contribute to the development of secondary traumatic stress (STS), vicarious trauma (VT), compassion fatigue (CF), empathy fatigue (EF), and burnout (BO).

Grounded in the intentional purpose of healing the healer, this intervention workshop explores four key areas where these challenges often surface when STS, VT, CF, EF, and BO are not adequately managed or addressed: boundaries, emotional regulation, procrastination, and neglect of physical/mental health. These effects can complicate ethical decision-making, inadvertently impart treatment bias, and diminish personal well-being when left unaddressed. Participants will apply evidence-based strategies informed by CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing (MI), developmental psychology (Piaget), mindfulness, and resilience research.

The interactive training invites voluntary participation through discussion, experiential learning, and guided reflection. By the workshop's conclusion, attendees will have strengthened their ability to remember their own resilience by incorporating practical knowledge to strengthen and maintain boundaries, manage stress reactions, attend to health needs, and find time to assess personal and professional needs across diverse roles.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Differentiate secondary traumatic stress (STS), vicarious trauma (VT), compassion fatigue (CF), empathy fatigue (EF), and burnout (BO), and analyze how these concepts impact professional and personal functioning.
  2. Apply evidence-informed HRR strategies (CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing (MI)) to address boundaries, emotional dysregulation, procrastination, and health impacts in work with clients and everyday contexts.
  3. Evaluate personal and professional boundary practices to align with ethical standards and community partnerships, and develop an individualized plan to sustain resilience throughout one’s career.
