Desccription:
This workshop will provide participants an opportunity to gather and disseminate success strategies for discovering what works with children. Therapy and coaching with children and families is exciting work because children are so creative and successful when they are acknowledged as their own expert and given a chance to discover their own solutions.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is especially suited to children because there is a playful explorative tone to the therapy. Although there will be a didactic portion to this workshop, the majority of the conversation will be finding the ‘what else’ in what works with children. Included in the discussion will be concrete examples of applying SFBT practices to therapy with children. Concrete examples of scaling with toys, miracle questions and exceptions to the problem will be demonstrated through video tape, role-play and explanation. Working ‘with’ rather than ‘doing to’ is critical to therapy; that same spirit of collaboration will be present throughout the workshop.
Learning Objectives:
Research: Information on solution-focused brief therapy in children and adolescents can be found on Google Scholar.
