Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care: "Trauma 101"

This is a required course in the Online Trauma-Informed Organization Certificate Program: Basics for All Staff that was created by the University at Buffalo School of Social Work’s Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care (ITTIC).
This course offers foundational information regarding the nature and impact of trauma as well as key concepts and the core values/principles of trauma-informed care. Frequently clients, students, patients, community members, co-workers, and other individuals that we encounter on a daily basis have experienced trauma. This course is intended to facilitate developing a level of competency and awareness of trauma among those who work in clinical as well as non-clinical settings.

Target Audience: This course is appropriate for social workers and all levels of human service staff that seek foundational information on trauma and a Trauma-Informed approach.

Susan A. Green, LCSW, is one of our most popular instructors. Sue is a certified EMDR therapist with certification in Advanced Critical Incident Stress Management, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Sue is a full time Clinical Professor at the University at Buffalo, School of Social Work, and director of the School's Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care. Sue trains locally and nationally, and has done international presentations on trauma and trauma-informed care.
Samantha Koury, LMSW is currently a project manager at the Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care (ITTIC), as well as a trainer and consultant on various projects. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Social Work and has experience working with staff in different agencies, organizations, and systems to become more trauma-informed in their work. Samantha is passionate about increasing awareness of trauma and re-traumatization and helping organizations and systems plan for, implement and sustain trauma-informed culture change.
