Personality Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment Approaches

Working with those presenting with personality disordered behaviors and symptoms can be challenging. This training will outline the diagnostic criteria within the DSM 5, discuss diagnosing strategies, treatment strategies, and interpersonal skills for management of personality symptoms throughout the course of therapy. This training will further discuss countertransferential experiences with personality types.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and assess Personality Disorders using DSM 5 criteria
  2. Examine the effects personality disorders have in clinical engagement and treatment
  3. Analyze treatment strategies to be used for treatment planning purposes
  4. Examine differences between Personality Disorders and Personality styles, as well as differentiation with other Mood Disorders and Diagnoses

Lisa Prefontaine, LMHC

Lisa Prefontaine is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, working in the Mental Health field for over 18 years. After working for 13 years at a local Behavioral Health Agency, the last 5 years as Clinical Director of Mental Health Services, Lisa is currently in full time private practice. She does individual therapy with adolescents and adults, as well as consultation for private practitioners and EMDR trained therapists, and is a trainer on various clinical topics. Lisa has maintained a private practice for 11 years and began using online services for self-pay in 2011. She continues to do online sessions and consultations.
